Now that it is fall and we are switching out our wardrobe, it is also time to switch out the wine collection and rotate the fruity for the savory wine. As the weather changes, we want to get into our fuzzy socks, binge watch our favorite show on Netflix, and munch on our favorite snacks.
While most people love to sip on some hot cocoa, I plan on sipping on wine as I indulge in a great fall movie. I am not a huge drinker but I do know and love my wines. It is refreshing to have a glasses of wine after a long day of work.
I am not sure if they have a pumpkin flavored wine but I do not think that would taste good. But it is fall and even though pumpkin is the flavor mascot for fall, it is time to look into other flavors or drinks. Just a reminder: some wines can be hard to find within certain areas. Not everyone has the same taste buds or the same taste in drinks.
Pinot Noir
Pinot noir screams fall. It has an aroma of earthy fall leaves. Many times, I love to pair a perfect glass of pinot with chicken, fish, and mild cheese. It is also delicious by itself. It is one of the most obvious choices for the fall. The flavor of the wine clings to your taste buds and makes you want to cozy up with fuzzy socks and lounge on the couch.
- Menage a Trois
- Gary Farrell Pinot Noir Russian River, 2015
- Meiomi Pinot Noir
Syrah
This wine is like bottling up a nice smokey bonfire. Not only in the taste but in the smell. This is a full bodied wine with a smoky spicy flavor. Syrah is sometimes overlooked but it can be a great wine to bring to Thanksgiving as something different. It pairs well with Grilled meats and vegetables.
- Molly Dooker Shiraz The Boxer, 2016
- Dave Family Shiraz Estate, 2015
- Regina DI Renieri, 2013
Merlot
Merlot embodies fall. It has cozy and notable characteristics of berry flavors mixed with coffee and sometimes vanilla. It is easy to drink and does not need a companion. Merlot is a crowd favorite that can easily be served with steak, mushrooms or casseroles.
- Radius Merlot
- Low Hanging Fruit Merlot
- Double Dog Dare Merlot
Rosé
I know we are thinking rosé for the fall but it is a great wine to transition from the fruity summer. But it is a great addition to any meal since a good Rosé can refresh your palate. Rosé is great with turkey, butternut squash soup, and roasted potatoes. Bring a bottle to Thanksgiving dinner and thank me later.
- Scherrer Rosé, 2016
- Rondel Rose Semi Seco Cava
- Chateau d’Esclans Whispering Angel Rosé
Share your thoughts on your favorite wine. I love a glass or two of wine every once in a while. Okay, maybe every other day. It is one of my favorite guilty pleasures to indulge in after a long day. All of these wines and many more are available at TotalWine.com. You can find many amazing wines at various places and remember: not everything is available in all areas.
